How to write a good CV

How to make your CV more appealing to employers

  • Make your CV concise - Two pages CV is ideal as long CVs could put potential employers off.

  • Use MS word Format

  • List duties and responsibilities

CV writing techniques

  • List all your duties and responsibilities (try not to summarise)

  • Highlight important information in any project you’ve been involved in, such as type of project, value/size of the project, number of personnel working under you (if any), …etc.

  • List any relevant achievements

  • Concentrate on experience, skills and achievements that are relevant to the job you are applying for –There is a point talking about your CAD draughting skills when you are applying for a position (yes it’s worth mentioning)

  • List your employment history in reverse chronological order.

  • List all your relevant skills and software/IT-experience

  • Carefully choose your CV layout, words and language, (after all your CV is your main and only marketing tool)

  • Try to include work references, It is acceptable to use “as request” but references will make your application stronger.

  • Do not lie or exaggerate facts or achievements!

  • Reed your CV back to your self to ensure that it makes sense.

  • Check the spellings and grammar of your CV.
